Seachios Marine Services: Four Decades of Excellence in Cargo Vessel Preparation

Welcome to the inaugural post of the Seachios Marine Services blog. For those new to our esteemed name, Seachios Marine Services has been a vanguard in the maritime landscape for over four decades. With an illustrious heritage, we have expanded our influence across six nations in Latin America, emerging as the preeminent leader in the region. This blog is my humble attempt, as a naval project manager and the commercial director, to provide insights and share experiences from our vast domain of expertise.

A Glimpse into the World of Naval Project Management at Seachios Marine Services

At Seachios Marine Services, my role is multifaceted. As a Naval Project Manager, I am tasked with orchestrating the intricate preparation of cargo vessels docking in ports, priming them for their subsequent operational cycles. This may sound straightforward, but beneath the surface lies a plethora of responsibilities and services, each with its distinct set of challenges and nuances.

One such critical task is the cleaning and washing of cargo holds. This isn’t just a cursory cleaning endeavour; it’s a precise process, demanding attention to detail and paramount dedication. As a Naval Project Manager, it's imperative to ensure that the quality of service we provide meets the exacting standards our clients have come to expect from Seachios Marine Services.

A vessel might comprise 5, 7, or even 9 cargo holds, and as one might surmise, the number of holds directly influences the project's duration, budget, and eventual compensation. The cleaning of these holds isn’t uniform; it’s tailored to the previous cargo, which can range from coking coal, oily residues, and limestone to sulfur, among others. The subsequent transition from transporting such raw materials to foodstuffs, like grains, further complicates the cleaning process, adding layers of responsibility and oversight.

Our focus is largely centred on the northern and northeastern regions of Brazil, owing to the bustling activities of ports like the Port of Itaqui and the Port of Alumar. The sheer volume of minerals and grains transiting through these ports necessitates the unparalleled expertise Seachios Marine Services offers.

A Teaser for Future Endeavours

In subsequent posts, I'll delve deeper into our work, detailing our collaborations and shining a light on the very essence of Seachios Marine Services. Spoiler: we have had the privilege of working with some of the most significant entities in Latin America, leveraging our four-decade experience to forge partnerships that have had global ramifications.

Thank you for joining us on this maritime odyssey. The voyage has just begun.

Filippe (Philipp) Alves

Chief Commercial Officer and Naval Project Manager at Seachios Marine Services.
